A linux based PC, located in B-65, can be used to archive data.
It is equipped with a DVD/CD writer and an internal zip drive.
DVD writing is not available at the moment but the CD-R appears to work fine.
To archive your data on a CD-ROM do the following:
- Log into the PC using your usual username and password
- Put a CD-R or CD-RW disc into the CD-RW drive (second from top)
- double click k3b icon on desktop

In the window that opens click file->New Project->New Data Project

In the left panel click root -> data -> your username

drag and drop the files you wish to save into the "current projects window"

The green/red bar at the bottom of the "current projects" window will indicate how much space you are using on the CD.

When your are done adding files click Project -> Burn...

In the window that opens set the speed to 16x. If you are going to read the CD in a Windows PC, enable "Generate Joliet extensions" under the "Settings" tab.
You can save your settings with the "save" button.

Click the "write" button to burn the CD.

Exit k3b when you are done, right click on the cdrom2 desktop icon and select "eject" from the list.
To archive your data on a zip disk:

Log into the computer using your usual username and password.

Insert a zip disk into the zip drive.

Double click the "data" desktop icon.

Drag the files you wish to save onto the zip icon on the desktop.

When you are done, right click on the zip desktop icon and select "eject" from the list.
