MS Facility Reactivation

The Cornell NMR facility has been allowed to reopen to support approved research activities subject to the following limitations and safety requirements.

Limitations:

  1. DART-Exactive is open but you must follow new procedures that enforce physical distancing requirements.

  2. The GCMate (GC-MS) is down but will reopen when fixed.

  3. Cornell users must provide proof that they have an approved lab reactivation plan in place.

  4. Non-Cornell users must be request access, even if they used the facility in the past

Safety requirements:

  1. Observe occupancy limits.

  2. You MUST wear EH&S approved face coverings in the lab AT ALL TIMES, even when you are alone. This requirement allows us to operate without a delay between individual users. Unless you want to start waiting an hour after the previous user to use the instruments, cover your face.

  3. Clean disposable gloves MUST be worn AT ALL TIMES while in the labs. This requirement allows us not to disinfect the instruments and other surfaces after each user. Unless you want to start waiting for us to disinfect the room before you get your mass spectra, wear gloves.

To get access to the MS facility you must complete the following steps:

  1. Study and understand the new procedures that enforce physical distancing requirements. These are basically the same as the new NMR procedures but with a few differences specific to B-78.

  2. Certify that you will follow those procedures faithfully

  3. Certify that you will wear face coverings at all times while in the facility, even when working alone

  4. Certify that you will wear clean, disposable gloves at all times while in the facility

You can start using the MS facility if BOTH of the following applies to you:

  1. You were trained to use the MS Facility before the shutdown AND

  2. Your NMR account has been reactivated OR your completed the new online NMR training

If you do not meet these criteria, please contact us to arrange access.
