Solvent suppression by presaturation
These instructions should work on all Varian spectrometers.
Text in bold should be typed on the command line with [return] after each line.
- Set up the experiment as you normally would, lock and shim the sample
- dn='H1' dm='n' nt=1 ss=0 gain=0 ga
- When the spectrum is displayed set the cursor on the solvent signal.
- nl sd
- dm='ynn' dpwr=12 dmm='c' homo='y' d1=2
- ga
- When the spectrum appears, examine the solvent peak.
If the solvent peak is still larger than the signals you wish to observe:
- dpwr=dpwr+3 dpwr? NEVER increase dpwr beyond 30!
- Run the spectrum again and keep increasing dpwr until you get acceptable supression of the solvent peak or dpwr reaches 30, whichever happens sooner.
- When you are happy with the power setting:
- gain='n' ss=2 nt=16 or however many scans you think you will need.
- Start your acquisition and process as you normally would.
